Two females at Day 140 and I have to go out of town
So here is a little delima: My last girl dropped at day 250 or 151 POS I now have two female northerns at day 140 POS or 247 days since copulations. I have to go out of town on Friday for several days (the day I suspect they will drop)... my wife and daughter will be here, but they will not go in the snake room. I am worried that I willnot be here to pull the neonates out of the cage. Has anyone heard of Emeralds eating their young, I think I read about it once. I am also worried about the mom crushing the neonates I can monitor them on webcam but I will 10 hours away from them. Any advice or opinions appreciated, I wish this could have been planned better, but I really didn't know this schedule when I bred them back in November of last year.

I have heard of females eating dead neo's but not live ones. You should be okey as long as they are not born premature. If they are born premature and are able to move around the cage there is a good chance they will pull part of there stomach out. This will eventualy kill them. I would put some type of jungle gym for the babies. Good luck with them. Ed M.

I second putting a small jungle gym on the cage floor for them otherwise they could hurt themselves trying to get to the perch that your female is on.

Thanks for the feedback I built a 'jungle gym' - used my daughter's connex. :)

Ask your wife or daughter to spray them when they are born. They should be OK if you don't take too long to come back. I always have this problem as my emeralds tend to be born between Xmas and new year.

We have an automatic misting system on all 28 of the cages now, so they should be okay in that regard, my biggest concern is babies with external yoke sacks. last year we had one born with an external and it didn't make it.

Just drop them off over here Phil.

All the healthy ones should be fine. The mom won't eat any, no worries. Natural selection at work. Good luck. Kyle

Got home last night just in time to watch her drop 15 babies - 3 were still born - one of the still born was a killer with huges white spots down her sides. one had a small external yoke sack, but it dropped it within a couple of hours. they are not as spectacular as the litter in May and they are about half the size of last litter, but all seem healthy so far. here is a short vid that the night vision caught of the birth: http://www.kwmagic.com/myetbs/images/IP Camera_20100804035007.Avi
