Ed,You'd have to sell more basins to pay for the ammunition expenditure! I once got through over 10,000 rounds in a few hours during a live fire exercise in Kenya. I'm glad i wasn't footing the bill! The gas parts and those of the 2 spare barrels were caked in carbon and took more than a few hours to clean. 20 round bursts in the sustained fire role and those tins emptied in no time. A pic of me in Norway over 23 years ago with L7A2 GPMG. ( blank barrel ) A worthy successor to an MG 42, though perhaps not as much fun.

Cool pic Jules, I have never seen one of those, it looks like it has an MG34 or 15 bipod. No it doesn't take long to burn through some ammo and they are definitly a pain to clean. I usually take about 1000 round with me every time I go shooting. I usually load belts at the rang so I can stay for a little wile. :) Hopefully I will have some luck this year and I will by an H&K sear back, I sold mine to get my first 42. Then I will have a live MP5, MP5K and a 53. Then I will have to buy more ammo. Ed

Ed,the weapon is basically the same as an FN MAG 58. The british army adopted it and made slight modifications for C2 sight and other optical units. Infact some units in the US military use an updated version, the M240 series. A few of the advantages of this weapon is the rapid barrel change, around 10 seconds ( carrying handle is affixed to barrel so need for hand protection ) and the disintegrating link belt , the tripod for the SF role is also a lot smaller and easy to deploy. A cyclic rate of 750-1000 RPM ( depending on gas regulator setting ) is enough to wipe the smile off the face of anyone on the recieving end of it. Dont delay Ed, get one today! On second thoughts, i think you have enough of an armoury already! I've enclosed another pic of yours truly posing for the camera. Taken 1989 at "green ramp" Fort Bragg N.C. We're cross training with 82nd Airborne about to emplane on those C141 in the background for a flight and para drop into Mojave desert CA. Sweating already!
