COLOMBIA
Oscar I am not talking about the typical northern from Eastern Colombia. Those are from a vast area and appear very similar to typical northerns....... and why not, as they are not geographicaly isolated from other populations. I am specificaly talking about the "Cordilerra" or " Antioquian" emerald, which lives in 2 small lowland areas surrounded by the Andes Mountains. Geographicaly isolated for many millions of years. This is a very small area and a very dangerous area. Even the nearest zoo, which has Emerald specimens from eastern Colombia, does not have any specimens from Cordilerra. The head keeper in the reptile department also stated that the area is too dangerous to work in. IF you seriously have some connection within that area, please do let me know ( email: snakes718@aol.com). Frank F

That is a typic looking Eastern Colombian Northern Emerald. Keep lookiing and you will find many pics very similar ! Quite different from the Cordilerra Emerald. It is highly doubtful any Emerald exists on Gorgona as the nearest known Emerald on the mainland is hundreds of miles away and I believe it ( Gorgona) is further west than any known populations. BUT if there were to be Emeralds on that island, that would be an interesting discovery and I'm sure there's alot of interesting discoveries with Emeralds just waiting to be had. I can't stress enough how little we realy know about this species ! So when are you going ?

Yup, here another wildlife picture from peru I hate that we know so little. I'm seriously thinking about taking a vacation in ETB country someday.
