DefecationsMorning Guys,
Quick question on what you guys have seen or experienced. I follow the three feeds and BM rule for my basins. I recently have started in the middle feeding to give me female to smaller rats in one feeding instead of the one. I noticed on her last BM that she only defecated some urate and a small amount of actual "poop" definitely smaller than norm. So even though I logged it as a BM I have waited to feed her again. She is on the war path with me because she is wondering WTF is going on. My ultimate questions is does it matter the size of the BM in between feeding cycles or not. Thanks guys.

Just feed the poor girl, lol
I don't follow the 3 meals BM stuff, my animals eat once or twice a month and sometimes skip a meal, usually during shed cycle, I don't write stuff down but I guess they have a BM 2-3 times a year, they'll look big then crap and look skinny again.

Duh, yea thanks Jules it is the other way around 3 meals then poop LOL!!!!

Martin, my male has ate 4 normal sized meals and 1 mouse and not had a bm yet, also we moved to a new house so his stress is up a bit i can see it in his coils and threat position. long story short, i think so long as we spread out the meals they shall fair well. mine only has been offered one rat a month to slim him down a bit, and like i say 5 meals no bm, but he is about to.
scratch that...he went off like a cannon in the night last night...
I would suggest one animal per feeding ONLY! More prey items means more urate balls. More rough urate balls will ultimately raise the chance for prolapse.( the rough surface of multiple balls of urates pulls the colon out with it when it exits)
If the animal does not poop after 3 meals soak it in warm water until it poops.

+1
I agree with what Kyle stated above. Impactions not only can be the cause of a prolapse but other problems as well. As the fecal matter or urates sits and starts to dry out it will act like a sponge and start to absorb fluids from the surrounding tissue. If this continues for long enough the fecal matter can adhere to the tissue. When this happens a simple bath of warm water is no longer an option. This is definitely an extreme case but the outcome of such events is not good to say the least.
Thanks guys. Enjoy your Sunday.
